PDO Thread Face Lift

Thread lifting was invented in Korea. It is a technique that redefines and contours the face, promoting collagen production. Threads can be used to lift any part of the face and some areas of the body. The threads are mainly used to lift the face, forehead, cheeks and the jawline.

PDO Thread Lift is the ultimate non-surgical facelift for those looking to achieve subtle refinements, virtually wrinkle-free skin, toned facial structures and youthful look.

There are different types of PDO threads, depending upon the area, the desired effect and results required.

Mono threads: are smooth threads without barbs. The threads are placed into the face in a mesh-like fashion for skin tightening effect. Usually, 4 - 8 week later and over a period of 6 months skin tightening improves as collagen forms around the threads. Mono threads are often used for treating the forehead, under the eyes, necklines and neck sagginess.

A number of mono threads are inserted for each treatment area, anything from 10 – 20 mono threads. To sustain lift, the threads are attached to an “anchoring point” of the scalp or face. Mono threads tighten the skin but without significant lifting; therefore they have to be used with cog threads for an overall improvement in face tightening and rejuvenation.

Cog threads: are mono threads with barbs to hook to the underside of the skin, these are often known as barbed threads. The barbs form a support structure that lifts the sagging tissue. Unlike mono threads, cog threads do not need anchoring points. Collagen formation occurs around the threads and their barbs. Cog threads are most effective for jawline lifting and slimming.

Screw threads: threads that available as one or two threads intertwined together around the inserting needle.

Screw thread has a great effect on giving volume effect on the sunken area of the skin.
Multi Screw – when intertwining two threads are used. This technique has a stronger effect over screw thread.
Screw threads are usually used for general face-lifting.

During your consultation, we will fully describe the treatment procedure and answer any questions to ensure that we work to provide you with your "as desired results".

Is the treatment suitable and appropriate for me?

  • We get asked this question all of the time.
  • We recommend that you book a consultation so that we can assess and help you to decide on your best option.
  • Optimal candidates for a thread facelift are in their 30s to 60s and with relatively good skin tone and those who are beginning to experience sagging in their face or neck
  • Do not have excessively loose skin or drooping facial areas that might require more demanding facelift surgery

Will the treatment be painful?

  • We apply a local anaesthetic cream to the area 15 - 20 minutes before the treatment, so pain is minimal and there is often none.
  • Slight pressure and "scratch sensation at the site of thread insertion may be felt.

Why can I not have the treatment?

If you have the following conditions then the treatment is not suitable for you at the present time:

  • Pregnant
  • Breast Feeding
  • Active facial skin condition
  • On blood thinning medication
  • Recently have had BOTOX or dermal facial filler treatment

How long will the treatment take?

  • The duration of the treatment is dependent on the area being treated.
  • On average treatment takes around 60 - 90 minutes.

Is there any downtime?

  • There can be swelling and tenderness of the treated areas at the site of thread insertion.
  • Occasional bruising and pinprick blood spots at the site of thread insertion.
  • The symptoms can last anywhere between 24 - 72 hours.

Results - What to expect?

  • Our PDO thread lift treatment is a real alternative to a surgical facelift.
  • You will notice an instant and visible change in your aesthetics immediately.
  • The changes will continue for up to 6 months, after which you will start to realise your "as desired" results, which you discussed with your practitioner during the consultation.

How long will the results last?

  • Everyone is different and therefore there is no guaranteed time period.
  • Generally, the results can last from 12 - 18 months and in some instances longer.

Post-treatment Care?

  • Avoid wetting the area, or stretch (yawn or laugh) or massage the face for the first 48 hours.
  • We support you throughout your journey by providing advice, care and follow up consultation post all treatments.
  • We are available at any time, should you have concerns, all you have to do is contact us.

Is the treatment safe?

  • Yes, PDO threads type sutures have been in medical use for over 30 years and are considered safe and the risk is virtually minimal.
  • PDO threads are naturally dissolved by the body over a period of time and leave no known after-effects.
  • No treatment is without risk and you should consult our practitioner for any concerns you may have.

  • All our treatments are personally carried out by Sangita, whose profile and experience you can read under "About Us".
